Only 4 more paydays until Christmas....
We get paid twice a month, you might have a few more paydays than we do. Anyway, my point is this:
Like us, you are probably gathering Christmas lists. Are you as bewildered as I am at the thought of buying one more toy for your kids?
I am. Seriously. They have a toy room.
A room.
Just for toys.
How many children in the world, right now as I type, would like to have a room to sleep in? Never mind a change of clothes or a bed.
Maybe a little food in their bellies?
"When you happen on someone who's in trouble or needs help
among your people with whom you live in this land that God, your God, is giving you,
don't look the other way pretending you don't see him.
Don't keep a tight grip on your purse.
No.
Look at him, open your purse, lend whatever and as much as he needs.
Don't count the cost."
~Deuteronomy 15:7-9
"When a poor person dies of hunger,
it has not happened
because God did not take care of him or her.
It has happened
because neither you nor I wanted to give that person
what he or she needed."
~Mother Teresa
What is our response?
Your response will be up to you. But can I encourage you to reach? Reach out. Reach far. Be as generous as your current circumstances allow. Then maybe you can think of ways to change your circumstances to give more.
How are you going to celebrate Jesus' birthday? What are you giving Him for a gift? After all, why should we give ourselves presents? It's not our birthday....
Thank you Ann. For reminding me.
